Lobster Regulations
(These
are general rules, your offical regulations will list all the
specifics)
You must have a salt water fishing
license.
You must have a lobster tag, added
to that license.
You must have the license with you
when taking lobsters.
(take your license, put it in a zip-lock
bag, fold it up and put it into a small water proof swim or beach
container, sold at many beach supplie stores, tie the container
to the top of your dive flag).
The FMP (Florida
Marine Patrol) checks divers in the water and on the beach.
You must have a
lobster measuring guage on you when you are taking lobsters.
(these
can be purchased at any dive shop $2.00-$3.00)
The lobsters you
catch must measure to the current requirements.
(when you get your fishing license and
lobster tag, you will get an offical set of current regulations) READ THEM.
All lobsters caught
and taken must be alive and whole when you reach the shore.
YOU CAN NOT REMOVE
THE TAILS ON THE LOBSTERS, WHILE UNDERWATER OR ON THE WATER.
You must not catch
a lobster in any means that will injure or kill it.
(no spearing
lobsters)
You must release
all lobsters that have eggs on the under-side of the tails.
(these
are orange in color, you can not mistake a lobster with eggs)
(any attempt
to remove these eggs will result in MAJOR FINES, if not JAIL.)
The bag limits for
the area you are diving will be listed in your current regulations.
The FMP is there
to protect the natural resources so you may enjoy them in the
future. Be respectful of the regulations and the FMP officers
and they will serve you well. Don't be a poacher !
