General Information on Dive Excursion's from Cruise Ship's

My personal tips and thoughts based on experiences I had over several cruises.
"If you have decided to go on dive excursions offer by the cruise line"

First: Get to your cabin, if you do not have the itinerary of the offered excursions, it should be in your cabin. If not, go to the main information booth on the ship and get it. Before you do anything else, when you get on the ship, make your selections, fill out the information and submit it. If you do not make this your first priority, you may find that these excursions are booked up, by those that have made it their first priority.

On this cruise,

Diving in Isla Roatan is a must for a diver. Snorkelers should also take advantage of this ***** 5 star location. The coral's are fantastic ! Anthony's Key Resort operates a first class dive operation. We dove to 140' on the wall's here. 2 THUMBS UP.

Cozumel is also a **** 4 to ***** 5 star location if you can dive the good areas !
This was a disappointment as the cruise line indicated we could dive Palancar reef area, this is a top location in Cozumel. But, no it was back to Santa Rosa Wall for the 8th time for me.
It is a great wall, but they will not let you dive more then 90', with a cruise ship group of mixed, capabilities. When in Cozumel, book with "The Black Shark" dive shop and tell them you want to dive Palancar !

Belize, hmmmmm not impressed with the area we happened to dive there, yes Belize has world class diving, "The Blue Hole" and others but this was not the case with this $140 (2) tank dive offered on this trip. Thumbs down on this one. I would have to have more information about the dive before I would, do a cruise ship excursion here again.

Cayman's, Well this one was interesting, having the opportunity to dive the Caymans before, I have had some good diving here. Trinity Caverns is a great dive. However, this dive was a One thumb up. Others had such bad experience with the rental equipment from this operator that, the cruise line refunded the money for this dive excursion. Don Foster in Grand Cayman is a first rate shop. The Sting Ray City, excursion is 2 thumbs up. Don Fosters

I will add the dive operator's as information as I develop this page.

If you are a new diver or just an intermediate type and never dove these area's ,go with the cruise line excursion's offered the first time around.

If you are a seasoned diver and want the good areas, make your arrangements in-advance, via the Internet. Select or use Dive operators that Capt. Bill recommends on his web pages. Let them know your arrival time, (many will pick you or your group up at the ship). Let them know your departure time. They will get you back to the ship.

Remember cruise ship lines do the best they can for the masses, but you will end up diving them same old 60-90 foot reefs over and over again, if you stay with cruise ship excursions.

Equipment:

Hey if you have a dive bag, bring it. You should have at least a dive skin. The jelly fish can play havic, they are small, but tend to bloom at certain times of the year and they will give you mild stings, These are brown and called locally MOON Jellies.

Dive watch is a good thing.

DO NOT BRING DIVE KNIVES, TANKS, OR WEIGHTS.

Weights and tanks are provide as part of any dive package. Knives will be taken off you on the ship.............. returned at the end of the trip, or as needed.

If you have dive equipment and plan to do some serious diving, bring it. Rentals will cost additional, as to what you require.

I dive at each location on a cruise, diving is what I do..................

Underwater Camera, rated at least to 100' is a good thing. Better to 120-160'

I will be adding camera information to my dive pages, as I have used several camera's over the years and you can see the quality each has produced.

When on a Cruise remember Capt. Bill always travels with his dive equipment and his BLENDER !
